  • Africana

What aspects of your cultural heritage are you most proud of or interested in?

It so ironic that this prompt came up when my sister got back her Ancestry.com linage results. Her, my brother, and I share the same parents so this definitely applies to me. I’m so happy to see so much rich African ancestry in my bloodline that I must study the countries that I derive from. I also found traces back to Sardinia, which is so cool; amongst other continents my bloodline is linked to.

  • Brands I am fond of

What brands do you associate with?

Being that marketing is part of my background, I do like brands that have a good reputation. I know capitalism can have some shady aspects, but as a consumer I try to find brands I can identify with; especially if they have great policies that are for their customers.

    Here are mine:

    Toyota/Lexus

    Kohl’s

    Nordstrom

    Food Lion

    IHG Hotels

    QVC

    Sephora

    IKEA

  • Finding peace & Keeping a sane mind

Which topics would you like to be more informed about?

In todays’ world, there’s so much chaotic energy everywhere and it seems impossible to stay worry-free. Me being an optimist because of my faith and who I am, I know that the higher power is working. Also, with humans destroying our planet, I feel this way more than ever. It’s important to feed people ways to find peace & and sane mind; and being kinder to our environment. For me, reading my bible helps me with these issues.

At this point, I don’t feel people really need another platform on how to make money or get rich. It’s time to focus on mental health and finding internal peace in which is way more difficult to acquire than money.

  • Unclean Wings

Write about your most epic baking or cooking fail.

I remember when I was 15, trying to teach myself how to cook. For some odd reason, I wanted some buffalo chicken wings and I attempted to make them; I drenched the chicken with hot sauce without cleaning them or seasoning them and using butter. My mother had to stop me and tell me I needed a recipe. I was so hurt & the time I had a high-school boyfriend that was on the phone that teased me.

lol looking back…I always had a desire to cook, just needed better execution.

  • The Faster

The penchant to rush is plaguing me,

To probably make another major mistake for many to see,

I feel I may need to slow down for not only intentionally,

But for I don’t need a reminder of how silly I could be.

Rushing has been an Achillies heel for me,

Always looking at the smaller parts of belief,

What I don’t understand is that usually the faster you go,

Half of the time it sets you back to being slow.

  • Detachment

Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

Being an overthinking person with a touch of empathy is not fun at times. It’s like tending to try to force events to occur in your life, even if they’re not good for you.

As I’ve gotten older, I learned detachment as a whole-let it go and flow. From time to time I still overthink, but now I’m more mindful and aware so I can live my life in peace.

  • Turned 40 years old, unmarried, childless, & still hopeful

Not taken at 40 years old (38 years old)!

When people ask a woman that turned 40 years old whom: doesn’t have children, never been married, and not settled why that is? My answer is simply it is either delayed or denied. The important thing to know is that I desired a family of my own since childhood. However, let’s ask the more difficult question: Were you raised to be emotionally-ready to have these things? I would answer again in simple terms that “I used to feel I was until I got into my thirties.

Time does justice! Especially with Zara.

Yes, many of us have experienced an abandonment by one parent that shaped us to view relationships very obscurely. Being raised where a toxic relationship was formed, it’s hard to break free the mode of finding stability. But guess what…it’s necessary.

Don’t get me wrong…I am a spiritual person that is connected with my faith, which lets me know that I will achieve the majority of my goals. Sometimes the unwanted questions make you feel like you’re a weirdo or undesirable as a mid-aged woman. Please don’t be! What is for you is for you. It will come, because what due process will show you, it comes when you never expect it.

    It does indeed!
  • Kohl’s Fall 2024

Follow me on TikTok (azizasteez3) for my fashion try-ons and styling.

I am really, truly obsessed with the fashion line “InTempo” at Kohl’s. It’s not only a vibe trying on their clothes at the store but the fit when you bring it home? I gots to have it! The red cargo faux-leather with the front slit is a must have. I’m picking mines up next week! 😎

The “Nine West” line at Kohl’s has gotten me excited too! If you see the satin pleated skirt added to this lightweight turtleneck sweater, you’re already put together once you style it.

Honestly, Kohl’s is where I’ll probably get 95% of my fall clothes this year…

  • Grudge

Are you holding a grudge? About?

One thing about grudges is they are slow-growing “cancers” inside of your body, let alone your soul. Harboring feelings of animosity towards another human being without a healthy dialogue to solve the issue is damaging in the long run. Forgiveness is something this world needs to understand and let go of grudges-ultimately removing hurt to enjoy peace! 🩵

  • Walking is part of my daily life…

How often do you walk or run?

I walk at least 6 times a week, especially due to the nature of my job. My job requires me to walk at least 3 miles per day, so walking keeps me going.

I actually like to walk regularly anyways, because now that I’m 40 years old, I want to keep my health in tact as long as possible. Jobs that require movement keeps me going.
